Cost of renting in Bangkok

You are coming to Bangkok; you are excited and ready, but don’t know how to go about renting an apartment. Here is a look at the cost of renting in Bangkok.

Housing- Average Rents

As long as you are not living in Bangkok’s central business district, by far the most costly place to live in all of Thai, you should be able to rent a house for just a few thousands baht per month.

At the low end, you can easily get an apartment with basic facilities and a fridge for 5,000 to 10,000 baht per month.

That translates to approximately 154 to 308 dollars per month.

Apartments that more closely resemble the western comforts start at about 15,000 baht, or 462 dollars per month.

If you truly want a luxurious apartment, you should also expect to pay approximately 30,000 baht, or 925 dollars per month. Within Bangkok, cost of renting usually goes up depending on how close you are to a MTR or Sky train station.

Given the despicable traffic in Bangkok, if you plan to travel to your workplace every day, you will want to live near the Sky train station. Sukhumvit is one neighborhood that is well known with expats.

Outside of Bangkok, costs of renting are usually a little bit lower, but it again depends upon the region that you choose. For instance, you can find very basic, one room apartments for only 3,000 baht, or 90 dollars per month.

In summary the cost of renting in Bangkok is as follows

36,000 THB, or $1,189 and up – luxurious apartments, 3 rooms or more

21,000 to 35,000 TBH or $694 to $ 1,156 per month- 1, 2 or even 3 bedroom apartments, vary fancy, great location, really nice place

11,000 to 20,000 TBH, or $363 to $661 per month- very fancy apartments, 1 or 2 bedroom apartments with kitchen, good location as well

5,000 to 10,000 THB or $160 to $330 per month- Studio apartment in a more convenient location, possible fitness room and swimming pool

2,000 to 4,000 THB or $64 to $128 per month- basic studio rooms (without balcony) and bathroom, comes with a bed and a closet

Some of the great places to live in Bangkok include:

Victory Monument and Rangnam

With a perfect network of transportation, lots of apartments to choose from, and tons of Thailand street food, Victory Monument is one of the most ideal places to live.

Thanon Rangnam, a road that’s perpendicular to Victory Monuments, is a great street that hosts Thailand and International restaurants, some small laid back bars and a couple cosy cafes. There are quite a good number of nice serviced rentals and apartments.

Soi Ari and Saphan Kwai

Just north of Victory Monument is Soi ari, an area of Bangkok that offers tons of rental apartments, a few guest rooms, and a mixture of affordable street food, garden style sit down restaurants and quaint cafes.

Sukhumvit , Phra Khanong BTS

Sukhhmvit is one of Bangkok’s main central roads and a home to countless restaurants, businesses, the BTS skytrain and lots of entertainment.

There are a good number of expats and Thais that choose to live somewhere close to Sukhumvit since it’s very convenient. Ekkamai, Thong and Asoke are all great places of town, but you will find that prices are a bit high.
