The Thai and Italy Match

All around the world, people of good taste and conviviality enjoy the excellent food and resounding wines of Italy.

No need to concern yourself if that standard can be maintained in the capital as some of the best Italian chefs’ work in Bangkok.

Many have gained some of the most reputable experience around the planet in top hotels and leading restaurants. The match between the Thais and the Italians is more intimate than many would suspect.

The Thai language has often been described as the Italian of Asia, more romantic and sweet than its neighbors in South East Asia when spoken by a Thai with intent to sound pleasing on the ear.

In addition Italians have had a long academic history with Bangkok Universities and Italian Construction partnerships are well regard in Thailand.

Remember each time you pass the Democracy Monument illuminated at night while the traffic whirls round the relief sculptures that were designed by Italian architect Corrado Feroci who became Thai citizen Silpha Bhirasi.

L’Opera

L’Opera has consistently been voted one of the best Italian restaurants of Bangkok for quite some years now and it’s hard to find reason to critique.

L’Opera has that intimate Italian restaurant feel that modern hotels fail to capture and the food is generally very good, but there are some angles that it fails to deliver.

The lunch crowd is way too crowded to enjoy a meal, with elbows jostling against each other as the tables are packed quite densely.

The food is worth a visit but it’s not inexpensive and there are other restaurants that can claim to perform more consistently during busy periods and popular dating nights.

L’Opera is still worth a visit but only as a reference.

Regulars there are more interested in being seen than seeing what’s on the menu.

Gianni Restaurant

Gianni Restaurant on Soi Tonson, Ploenchit Road, Lumphini has secured a reputation for delighting the most fussy aficionado of Italian food.

The restaurant is an institution in the capital city and that is through no small effort of its owner and chef who manages to infuse his passion for food and flavors, wine and setting in everything he does throughout the restaurant from the cutlery to the cutlets.

The atmosphere here is gentle and placid with experienced waiters only too happy to smooth over the most inconsequential of errors or requests.

Monsoon

Monsoon is at the Adelphi Suites on Sukhumvit Soi 8. It has one of the most loyal review followings on the internet with passionate critics talking about the food and service.

Technically there’s more than just Italian food on the menu so you can take people who need anything but Italian food.

In any case they’re going to love the fantastically smooth service and the consistently outstanding attention to food and detail on the menu.

There’s a cozy atmosphere on the inside but if you prefer the Bangkok vibrancy that comes with al fresco dining you can head for the patio to enjoy Monsoon.
