If you are planning a trip to Thailand, you may be wondering what you will do when you get there. There are many tourist sites to visit and some of them are rather unusual.

Here are a few examples you may want to explore that are far from the normal tourist sites and locations you may expect to visit:

1. The Hell Gardens

The Wat Phai Rong Wua Hell Gardens and the Wng Seun Suk Hell Gardens are a little out of your way but worth a visit for those who can appreciate the macabre.

These gardens depict scenes from Buddhist hell and come with explanations for all the figures and what is happening to them.

Be warned, however, most of the scenes are rather graphic and some scenes are very lifelike therefore not for the frail of heart (or weak of stomach).

All that aside, it gives us a glimpse into what Buddhists hope for in the afterlife and gives teachings about avoiding such torture along the way.

2. Cabbages and Condoms

What do cabbages and condoms have in common?

Nothing except for the fact that both feature in this interesting little restaurant.

The use of condoms in the décor and all around you seems highly unusual.

Even the mannequins on display are wearing outfits made up of hundreds of condoms stretched, blown up or draped over their bodies.

Do not immediately dismiss it, however since the main aim of the theme is to get people comfortable with the idea of contraception.

It has reportedly worked and unwanted pregnancies in the area have reduced dramatically.

3. Giant Swing

This is another giant monument to behold. In earlier times, young men supposedly used the swing as a slingshot to heaven.

It was used for a religious ceremony up to 1935 where it was discontinued when several people fell to their deaths.

The ceremony itself featured young men swinging on the large swing and attempting to catch bags of coins more than twenty five meters up with their teeth.

Today it is simply a monument and quite the sight to see.

4. James Bond Island

This tourist attraction became so because of James Bond for whom it is named. The reason is because the James Bond movie “The Man with the Golden Gun” was shot at the location.

If you fancy visiting such a site, make sure you pay a visit to the island.

At the very least, you will get amazing views and be able to take photos in the place where “James Bond” once stood.

5. Baan Dam

Among the many dark locations you can visit in Thailand is the Baan Dam. It also goes by the name: The Black House. It is a bit out of the way but well worth a visit.

All the walls of the house are black – hence its name. It features the skins and skeletons of many animals as well as some taxidermy.

The entire house gives off a dark aura and the sense of evil does seem to permeate through the rooms.

The fact that all the animals supposedly died of natural causes does make the place more spiritual than sinister.
