Choosing the Right Location

When it comes to finding a condo, Bangkok is very much a buyer’s market and fantastic condos can be found all over the city. With so many great condos to choose from, buyers and leasers of condos can really take the time to find something that exactly fits their style and needs. One of the most important things to think about when looking for a condo is the location.

There are dozens of different districts in Bangkok and each of these districts has their own unique features. Many people tend to look for a condo that is located reasonably close to their place of work. However, with BTS and MRT lines connecting most areas of the city it is now possible to commute to work in less than an hour provided that you choose a condo that is situated reasonably close to one of these lines.

The other main consideration for many people is cost. Generally speaking, condos that are located in the heart of the city cost a little more than those that are located in the suburbs. If cost is one of your main concerns you will be happy to hear that there are plenty of great condos available in the suburbs of the city that are connected to the rest of Bangkok by major transportation lines.

Many people like the idea of being right in the heart of the action and gravitate towards a condo that is located in one of the more central districts such as Asoke, Siam or Nana. These districts feature plenty of modern condos to choose from and are packed with great amenities.

The trendy districts of Thong Lor, Phrom Pong, Asoke and Saton tend to attract young professionals who like to socialize. All of these districts feature plenty of excellent Western-style bars, restaurants and clubs that are good places to hang out after a hard day at work and mingle with like-minded expats.

However, if you want to get a feel for more traditional city living then opting for a condo in one of Bangkok’s suburbs might be the best option. These areas feature a strong community feel and they are good places to meet local professionals. Unlike many of Bangkok’s trendier areas, the suburbs usually feature plenty of great street markets, where you can eat traditional Thai dishes on the street for just a few baht, practice your Thai with local vendors and get more of a feel for the Thai way of life.

At the end of the day, the location you choose will depend on where you feel most comfortable. For this reason it is a good idea to take the time to check out condos in a number of different districts and also spend time exploring these districts a little to find out if you feel at home there. You may well find that the area you settle on was not the location you first imagined yourself in, so be a little bit adventurous and you might be in for a pleasant surprise.
